I've blogged here in the past about the need and potential movement towards making different virtual worlds "talk" to each other - meaning that you can move your virtual presence from one world to another.

Here's a great article that discusses some of the efforts, milestones that must be obtained, and possible future efforts in this space.

Well worth the short read. If virtual worlds are indeed set to explode in numbers in 2008, the need for interoperatibility becomes critical for educators. Learners are simply too diverse for one world to suit all their learning needs.
