Second Life Crashes and Possible Fix

If SL is crashing on you when you log in, chances are the SL cache is corrupted. First try the automatic deletion routine. If that doesn't work, try the manual deletion routine. Let me know if this works for you.

Automatic deletion of the Second Life cache:

1. Open Second Life. Do not log in.
2. Choose the Edit/Preferences menu choice.
3. Click on the Network tab.
4. Click on the Reset button.
5. Click on OK.
6. Log into Second Life.

If problems persist, manually delete the entire cache.

Manual deletion of the entire Second Life cache

1. The SL Cache is located at

C: Documents and Settings//Application Data/SecondLife/cache

However, the Application Data folder might be hidden. To view it under Windows XP, open the folder in the Documents and Settings folder. Then select the Tools/Folder Options menu choice. Click on the View tab. In the Advanced Settings section of the screen, look for "Hidden files and folders" and select the "Show hidden files and folders" option. Click on the OK button.

2. You should now see the Application Data folder. Open it.
3. Delete the Second Life folder.
4. Open and log into Second Life. Note: This reverts SL back to it's default state, so you'll probably see introductory prompts, etc. for your first session.
